We are off to a great start this school year!  The children are doing a great job wearing their masks.  :)

I will be doing a school-wide screening on all the students within the next couple of months.  I have heard from a few teachers about parent concerns with their child's speech.  I have those students on a list and they will be screened.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hello!

I am sure all of you were excited to see your children start a new school year at school and not at home.  ;)

It was so nice to walk into our school building after being home for 6 months.  I am even more excited to see the students walk into the building on Aug. 27th.

So, the children will be wearing masks all day at school.  From the SLP perspective, this can be very exhausting for the speech/language students.  They need to exhibit extra effort while listening and speaking.  Please keep this in mind as they come home very exhausted.  Please reinforce words for their feelings so they do not act out their emotions in unpleasant ways.  For example; when they are tired, say, "I see you are tired.  You had a long day.  I would be tired, too.  Let mommy/daddy know if you need to go rest."

I made a story about how to speak when wearing a mask.  Please read it to your child and review what each page means.  Tap on the link below to direct you to the story.

Reach out to me if you have any questions or comments.  :)
